There are so many benefits to not being overweight. For me, one of the best ones is looking good in photos, especially those on social media. And especially those that I’m tagged in unexpectedly. When I finally look good in those pictures it will be so rewarding. Not being embarrassed about my appearance is something that I’m really striving for.
Another benefit of losing weight will be when I can finally shop in the regular size clothing department and not the plus sizes. There is so much more to choose from. Not to mention how much better I’ll look in everything. Another wonderful reward.
I’m sure you have some of your own reasons for wanting to lose weight too. Maybe they’re more humble and practical than mine.
But as I’m walking around today carrying a few more pounds than I should, I’m realizing that the most important reason to lose weight is truly my health. I know that my body won’t ache as much. I’ll be able to move faster and more freely. I’ll have more energy. I’ll sleep better too.
For years I’ve been hiding behind a false assumption that all is fine in my overweight world. Since there are so many plus size clothes out there, and pictures can be taken at the right angle and edited, my two first reasons for wanting to lose weight haven’t been able to deliver the motivation that I really need to do that.
It’s only when I start thinking about my health that I feel compelled to continue with the salads, smoothies and cycling.
Yes, shopping in the regular size clothing department will be wonderful. Looking good in those Facebook pictures will be fulfilling. But nothing will be as wonderful as walking around without my feet or back hurting. I’m motivated today to keep the pace, and for the right reasons this time.
